Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground turkey fresh, lean
  • 1 apple peeled and grated (Fuji or Gala recommended)
  • 1/4 cup onion finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh sage chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional for subtle kick
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil for cooking

Instructions

Prepare the Ingredients

  • Peel and grate the apple, squeezing out excess moisture if very wet. Finely chop the onion and fresh sage. Crack the egg into a small bowl and beat lightly.

Mix the Patty Mixture

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine ground turkey, grated apple, chopped onion, sage, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and beaten egg. Mix until just combined without overworking.

Shape the Patties

  • Divide mixture into 8 equal portions. With lightly oiled hands, shape each into a round, flat patty about 3 inches in diameter and 1/2 inch thick. Place on a plate or tray until ready to cook.

Cook the Patties

  • Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add patties in a single layer without overcrowding. Cook 4-5 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature 165°F).

Serve & Enjoy

  • Transfer cooked patties to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve warm with your favorite breakfast sides or inside a warm tortilla for breakfast burritos.

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Box grater
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Non-stick Skillet or Cast Iron Pan
  • Spatula
  • Measuring Spoons and Cups

Notes

  • Squeeze excess moisture from grated apple to prevent patties from falling apart.
  • Do not overmix to keep patties tender and light.
  • Flatten patties evenly for consistent cooking.
  • Leftover patties freeze well individually for quick meals.
  • Adjust cayenne pepper to increase spiciness or add smoked paprika for variation.
