Ingredients

  • 1.5 pounds potatoes cut into 1-inch pieces (Yukon Gold or red potatoes work great)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil extra virgin for the best flavor
  • 0.5 teaspoon smoked paprika adds a lovely smoky depth
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder or granules (for a gentle garlic flavor)
  • 0.75 teaspoon salt adjust to taste
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground black pepper freshly ground preferred

Instructions

  • Start by washing and drying your potatoes thoroughly. Cut them into roughly 1-inch pieces to ensure even cooking. The size is key—too small and they might overcook; too large and they won’t crisp up properly.
  • Place the cut potatoes in a large mixing bowl. Drizzle the olive oil over them, then sprinkle on the smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Toss everything together until each piece is evenly coated with oil and spices.
  • Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 3-5 minutes. Preheating helps the potatoes start cooking evenly the moment they hit the basket.
  • Arrange the potatoes in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Avoid overcrowding for the crispiest results—if needed, cook in batches. Air fry at 400°F for 15-20 minutes, shaking the basket or stirring the potatoes halfway through the cooking time to ensure even browning.
  • After 15 minutes, test a potato piece by piercing it with a fork. It should be tender inside with a golden, crispy exterior. If not quite there, continue cooking in 2-3 minute increments until perfectly roasted.
  • Transfer the roasted potatoes to a serving dish immediately. These are perfect as a side with grilled meats, eggs, or a fresh salad. For extra flair, garnish with chopped parsley or a squeeze of lemon juice.

Equipment

  • Air Fryer
  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Knife
  • Cutting Board

Notes

Use starchy or all-purpose potatoes like Yukon Gold or red potatoes for the best texture. Make sure the potato pieces are similar in size for even cooking. Don’t skip tossing halfway through cooking to achieve uniform crispiness. For extra crispiness, soak the cut potatoes in cold water for 30 minutes before drying and seasoning. Feel free to customize with herbs, spices, or cheese as suggested in the variations.
