Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter melted
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 loaf Texas toast 24-ounce, crust trimmed off (optional)
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 tablespoons brown sugar for sprinkling
  • 3 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 4 tablespoons butter softened
  • powdered sugar for sprinkling

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter and 1 cup brown sugar. Whisk until well blended. Add in the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract, continuing to whisk until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  • In a small bowl, mix the additional 4 tablespoons brown sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture into the custard and whisk until evenly distributed.
  • Heat your griddle or skillet over medium heat until a drop of water sizzles on the surface.
  • Trim the crust off the Texas toast if desired. Dip each slice into the custard mixture, coating both sides evenly. Let excess custard drip off.
  • Place soaked slices onto the hot griddle. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Repeat with remaining slices.
  • Transfer cooked French toast to a serving platter. Spread softened butter on top, sprinkle with powdered sugar, and serve warm with your favorite toppings.
