Ingredients

For the Beef and Vegetable Mixture:

  • 1 lb ground beef (85/15 blend)
  • 1 medium carrot diced
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • 1 medium orange pepper diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil for sautéing
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 2 tbsp taco seasoning for beef mixture
  • 2 tbsp fresh cilantro chopped

For the Dough and Assembly:

  • 1 ball pizza dough store-bought or homemade
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour for dusting
  • 1 tsp olive oil for greasing baking sheet (substitute ghee or unsalted butter)
  • 1.5 cups pizza sauce rich and flavorful base
  • 1 tsp taco seasoning added to sauce
  • 1.5 cups mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1 tsp fresh cilantro chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Dough

  • Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Let store-bought dough sit at room temperature for 30 minutes or ensure homemade dough has risen for 2-6 hours.

Cook the Beef and Veggies

  • Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onion, carrot, and orange pepper; sauté for 5 minutes until softened. Add minced garlic and cook 1 minute more.
  • Add ground beef, breaking apart with a spatula. Season with salt, pepper, and 2 tablespoons taco seasoning. Cook until browned and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in chopped cilantro.

Roll Out the Dough

  • On a floured surface, roll out the pizza dough to about 12 inches in diameter. Transfer to a pizza stone or greased baking sheet.

Assemble the Pizza

  • Spread pizza sauce evenly over the dough. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon taco seasoning over the sauce. Layer the cooked beef and vegetable mixture on top.
  • Generously sprinkle mozzarella and cheddar cheese evenly over the toppings.

Bake the Pizza

  • Bake in preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and crust is golden brown. Watch carefully to avoid over-baking.

Garnish and Serve

  • Remove pizza from oven and let cool for a couple of minutes. Garnish with additional fresh cilantro if desired. Slice and serve hot.

Equipment

  • Large Skillet
  • Pizza stone or baking sheet
  • Rolling Pin
  • Cutting board and knife
  • Spatula
  • Grater

Notes

  • Allow dough to rise properly for a fluffier crust and better texture.
  • Avoid overloading with toppings to prevent a soggy pizza.
  • Preheat your oven fully and consider using a pizza stone for a crispy crust.
  • Prepare the beef mixture in advance to save time on busy days.
  • Freeze leftover pizza wrapped tightly for up to 3 months and reheat in the oven.
