The Method for Salted Caramel Rice Krispie Treats

  • Begin by greasing a 9x13-inch baking dish with a little butter or lining it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  • In a large saucepan over low heat, melt the 6 tablespoons of salted butter. Add the 16 ounces of mini marshmallows and stir frequently until melted and smooth.
  • Unwrap the 8 ounces of caramel candies and add them to the melted marshmallow mixture. Stir until the caramel is fully melted and blended.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to enhance flavor.
  • Pour 7 cups of Rice Krispies cereal into a large mixing bowl. Carefully pour the marshmallow-caramel mixture over the cereal and gently fold until evenly coated.
  • Transfer the mixture into the prepared baking dish and press evenly with the back of a spoon or hands, avoiding packing too tightly.
  • Sprinkle 1/8 teaspoon of flaky salt over the top, adding more if desired for a stronger salty flavor.
  • Allow treats to cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes. Once cooled, cut into squares or rectangles and enjoy!
