Ingredients

  • 1 pound salmon fillet fresh, skin-on
  • 2 teaspoons avocado oil or cooking oil of choice
  • 1 pinch sea salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon paprika
  • 0.25 teaspoon onion powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground coriander

Instructions

Method: My Go-To Crispy Salmon

  • Pat the salmon fillet dry with paper towels, especially the skin side. Combine the sea salt, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, and ground coriander in a small bowl. Sprinkle the seasoning mix evenly over both sides of the salmon, gently pressing it in.
  • Place your skillet over medium-high heat and add the avocado oil. Allow the oil to heat until shimmering but not smoking, about 1-2 minutes.
  • Carefully place the salmon fillet skin-side down in the hot pan. Press down lightly with a spatula for about 10 seconds to prevent curling. Let it cook undisturbed for 5-6 minutes, or until the skin is crispy and golden brown.
  • Gently flip the salmon using your fish spatula. Cook the flesh side for another 2-3 minutes, until the salmon is just cooked through but still moist inside.
  • Transfer the salmon to your serving plate and let it rest for a couple of minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute, ensuring every bite is juicy and tender.

Equipment

  • Non-stick or stainless steel skillet
  • Fish spatula
  • Paper Towels
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Serving Plate

Notes

  • Pat the salmon dry thoroughly before cooking to ensure crispy skin.
  • Use a high smoke point oil like avocado oil for perfect searing.
  • Flip the salmon only once to keep the fillet intact.
  • Let the salmon rest after cooking to keep it juicy.
  • Try adding lemon zest or fresh herbs for a seasonal flavor boost.
