Ingredients

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 0.5 cup chopped pecans
  • 0.33 cup dried cherries
  • 0.5 cup unsweetened flaked coconut
  • 3 tablespoons ground flaxseed
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • pinch kosher salt
  • 1 apple grated (with skin on for extra fiber)
  • 0.5 cup milk (any variety works – dairy, almond, oat, or coconut)
  • 0.5 cup plain Greek yogurt (or your preferred yogurt)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon or orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Toppings fresh fruit, nut butter, nuts, seeds, extra milk, cinnamon, or anything crunchy you love

Instructions

  • Start by mixing the rolled oats, chopped pecans, dried cherries, flaked coconut, ground flaxseed, cinnamon, and kosher salt in your mixing bowl. This blend of textures and flavors forms the hearty base of My Favorite Bircher Muesli.
  • Grate the apple directly into the bowl with the dry ingredients. The grated apple adds natural sweetness and moisture, which helps soften the oats as they soak.
  • Pour in the milk of your choice, Greek yogurt, lemon or orange juice, and vanilla extract. Stir everything together thoroughly, ensuring the oats and nuts are well coated and evenly mixed.
  • Transfer the mixture to a container with a lid and place it in the refrigerator. Let it soak for at least 6 hours or overnight. This soaking process softens the oats and melds all the flavors beautifully.
  • In the morning, give your My Favorite Bircher Muesli a good stir. Add your favorite toppings—perhaps fresh berries, a drizzle of nut butter, a sprinkle of seeds, or an extra dash of cinnamon. Pour a splash of milk if you like it creamier.
