Build Moms Taco Recipe Step by Step

  • In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat until it shimmers.
  • Add 1 cup of chopped sweet onion to the skillet. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until translucent and fragrant.
  • Add ½ pound ground turkey and ½ pound ground beef to the skillet. Break the meat apart with a wooden spoon and cook until browned and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes.
  • Sprinkle in 1 teaspoon chili powder, 1 teaspoon cumin powder, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon dried oregano, ½ teaspoon sea salt, and ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper. Stir well and let spices toast for a minute.
  • Add the drained chili beans and the can of Ro-Tel (tomatoes and chiles) to the skillet. Stir and simmer on low heat for about 5 minutes.
  • While the meat mixture simmers, warm or fry your 12 corn tortillas as preferred.
  • Assemble tacos by spooning the meat mixture onto warm tortillas and topping with desired fixings like lettuce, tomato, sour cream, avocado, and cheese.
