Ingredients

  • 2 cups panko breadcrumbs for that perfect crunch
  • 1 lb white fish fillets cod or haddock work great
  • 4 soft hamburger buns or brioche buns
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese for a melty, savory kick
  • oil spray to help achieve that golden brown finish
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise for a creamy sauce base
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard adds a zesty flavor
  • 1 tablespoon pickle juice for tang and a pop of flavor
  • 1 tablespoon flour helps to coat the fish
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt enhances the overall taste
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper for a hint of spice
  • 1 cup mayonnaise for the sauce
  • 2 tablespoons dill pickle very finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon fresh parsley chopped
  • 1 teaspoon capers drained and finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice brightens the sauce
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar balances the flavors
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt or to taste

Instructions

  • Start by patting the white fish fillets dry with paper towels. This will help the coating stick better. Season the fillets with salt and pepper.
  • In one bowl, whisk the egg. In another bowl, mix the flour with a pinch of salt and pepper. In a third bowl, place the panko breadcrumbs.
  • Coat each fillet in flour, shaking off any excess. Dip it into the egg, allowing the excess to drip off, then coat it generously with panko breadcrumbs. Ensure an even coating for that perfect crunch.
  • Heat oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Spray the pan with oil spray if needed. Once hot, add the breaded fish fillets. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Use a kitchen thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 145°F (63°C). Remove the fish and drain on paper towels.
  • While the fish is frying, mix together the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, pickle juice, chopped dill pickle, parsley, capers, lemon juice, sugar, and salt in a bowl until well combined. This will be your zesty sauce.
  • In the same pan, toast the hamburger or brioche buns until lightly golden. This adds a nice texture and flavor to your sandwich.
  • On the bottom half of each bun, spread a generous amount of the sauce. Place a crispy fish fillet on top, add a slice of cheddar cheese, and cover with the top half of the bun.
  • Serve your McDonalds Fish Sandwich Copycat immediately with extra sauce on the side. Enjoy the delightful crunch and flavors that will transport you right to that beloved fast-food experience!

Notes

  • Use a kitchen thermometer to avoid overcooking the fish and ensure it reaches 145°F (63°C).
