Ingredients

  • 1 pound beef sirloin thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 inch ginger grated
  • 1 medium onion sliced
  • 1 carrot julienned
  • 2 green onions chopped
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • cooked rice for serving
  • Asian sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Marinade

  • In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger until the sugar dissolves.

Slice and Marinate the Beef

  • Using a sharp knife, thinly slice your beef sirloin across the grain. Add the beef slices to the marinade bowl, tossing to coat every piece evenly. Marinate for at least 30 minutes or up to 2 hours in the refrigerator for deeper flavor.

Prep the Vegetables

  • While the beef marinates, slice the onion into thin rings, julienne the carrot into matchsticks, and chop the green onions.

Cook the Beef and Vegetables

  • Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef slices and sliced onions. Cook for 4-5 minutes, stirring frequently, until the beef is browned and cooked through and the onions have softened.
  • Toss in the julienned carrots and chopped green onions, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes to keep the vegetables crisp and vibrant.

Assemble the Rice Bowls

  • Scoop a generous serving of cooked rice into your bowl. Top with the hot beef and vegetable mixture. Sprinkle Asian sesame seeds over the top for garnish.

Equipment

  • Sharp Knife
  • Cutting Board
  • Grater
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Large Skillet or Wok
  • Measuring Spoons and Cups
  • Rice cooker or pot

Notes

  • Marinate the beef for at least 30 minutes to ensure tender, flavorful meat.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan while cooking the beef to achieve a good sear.
  • Use thinly sliced beef for quick cooking and tenderness.
  • Store beef and vegetables separately from rice when meal prepping to avoid sogginess.
  • Substitute white rice with brown or cauliflower rice for a healthier option.
