Ingredients

  • 2 medium boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1 to 1¼ pounds)
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour (40g)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter (14g)
  • 3 cloves garlic crushed or minced
  • a pinch red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 0.33 cup honey
  • 0.33 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce (use gluten-free tamari if desired)
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch whisked with 1 tablespoon water

Instructions

  • Pat the chicken breasts dry with paper towels. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Dredge each chicken breast thoroughly in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
  • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the chicken breasts. Cook for about 5-6 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through. Transfer the chicken to a plate and set aside.
  • Reduce heat to medium. In the same skillet, add the butter and let it melt. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes if using. Sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant but not browned. Stir in the honey, water, soy sauce, and white vinegar. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  • Whisk the cornstarch slurry and slowly pour it into the pan while stirring continuously. The sauce will thicken and become glossy within a couple of minutes.
  • Return the chicken breasts to the skillet, spooning the sauce over the top. Let simmer together for 2-3 minutes, turning occasionally to coat evenly in the sticky honey garlic glaze.
  • Serve hot over steamed rice or alongside your favorite roasted vegetables.

Notes

  • Leftover Honey Garlic Chicken stores well in the fridge for up to 3 days; reheat gently to keep moist.
  • Use gluten-free flour and tamari for a gluten-free version.
  • For a diet-friendly option, reduce honey or substitute with a low-calorie sweetener and skip the butter.
