Ingredients

  • 8 ounces goat cheese softened at room temperature
  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened at room temperature
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon fresh cracked black pepper
  • 24 pieces crostini or toasted baguette slices
  • 1/2 cup pesto
  • chopped fresh basil or parsley optional

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to toast the crostini properly.
  • Slice a baguette into 24 thin slices, about 1/2-inch thick, and arrange them on a baking sheet in a single layer.
  • Toast the baguette slices in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Remove and let cool slightly.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine softened goat cheese and cream cheese. Blend until smooth using a hand mixer or whisk. Add garlic powder and black pepper and mix well.
  • Spread a generous layer of the cheese mixture onto each toasted baguette slice, covering the surface completely.
  • Top each cheese-covered crostini with a spoonful of pesto for vibrant flavor and color contrast.
  • Optionally, garnish with chopped fresh basil or parsley. Arrange on a serving platter and serve fresh.

  • Watch the crostini carefully while toasting to avoid burning and bitterness.
  • Assemble the canapés just before serving to keep the crostini crisp.
  • Try seasonal toppings like sun-dried tomatoes or fig jam for flavor variations.
  • Use gluten-free bread slices to make this appetizer gluten-free.
