Ingredients

  • 12 ounces shiitake mushrooms
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1/4 cup Italian parsley finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • salt to taste
  • ground black pepper to taste
  • lemon juice a squeeze of fresh lemon juice

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients

  • Start by cleaning the shiitake mushrooms under running water to remove any dirt. Halve them to allow for even cooking. Peel and mince the garlic, and finely chop the Italian parsley.

Step 2: Heat the Skillet

  • In a large skillet, heat the 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Allow the oil to warm up but not smoke; this will help the mushrooms sauté perfectly without burning.

Step 3: Sauté the Mushrooms

  • Add the halved shiitake mushrooms to the skillet, spreading them out to ensure even cooking. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are golden brown and tender.

Step 4: Add Garlic

  • Once the mushrooms are browned, add the minced garlic to the skillet. Stir well to combine and let it cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the garlic is fragrant but not burnt.

Step 5: Season and Finish

  • Sprinkle salt and ground black pepper to taste. Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the chopped Italian parsley and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice. Toss everything together to combine the flavors.

Step 6: Serve

  • Transfer the Garlic Mushrooms to a serving dish, and garnish with a little extra parsley and lemon zest if desired. Enjoy this dish warm!

Equipment

  • Large Skillet
  • Spatula or Wooden Spoon
  • Cutting board and knife
  • Measuring Spoons

Notes

  • Be careful not to burn the garlic by adding it towards the end of cooking the mushrooms.
  • Do not overcook the mushrooms to avoid a rubbery texture; cook until golden brown and tender.
  • Taste and adjust salt and pepper seasoning to enhance flavor.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated gently in a skillet.
  • Try adding red pepper flakes for a spicy kick or use different mushroom varieties for varied flavors.
