Ingredients

  • 3 large ripe plantains yellow with black spots
  • 1/2 cup avocado oil for frying
  • to taste sea salt sprinkle for seasoning

Instructions

  • Start by peeling the plantains. Cut off both ends, make a lengthwise slit in the skin, and carefully remove the skin without damaging the fruit.
  • Slice the peeled plantains into 1-inch thick pieces, ensuring uniform slices for even cooking.
  • In a large skillet, heat 1/2 cup of avocado oil over medium heat until hot but not smoking. Test by dropping a small piece of plantain; it should sizzle.
  • Add the sliced plantains in a single layer to the hot oil. Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Fry in batches if necessary.
  • Remove the fried plantains with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. While hot, sprinkle with sea salt.
  • Serve the fried plantains warm as a side dish, snack, or part of your favorite meals. Enjoy!

Equipment

  • Sharp Knife
  • Cutting Board
  • Skillet or frying pan
  • Slotted Spoon
  • Paper Towels

Notes

  • Use ripe plantains with yellow skin and black spots for the best sweetness and flavor.
  • Ensure the oil is hot enough to prevent soggy plantains; they should sizzle upon contact.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheat in a skillet to regain crispiness.
  • Try variations like adding cayenne pepper for spice or cinnamon and sugar for a sweet twist.
  • Slice thinner to make crispy plantain chips as an alternative snack.
