Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup warm water (or as needed)
  • Neutral oil for frying
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder. Mix well to ensure the dry ingredients are evenly distributed.
  • Gradually add the warm water to the flour mixture, stirring continuously until a soft dough forms. Adjust water as needed to achieve the right consistency.
  • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Divide the dough into portions and roll each out into a thin rectangle, about 1/8 inch thick.
  • Heat about 2 inches of neutral oil in a frying pan or deep fryer over medium-high heat. Test oil readiness by dropping a small piece of dough in; it should sizzle and rise.
  • Carefully fry each rolled dough piece for 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown. Avoid overcrowding the pan.
  • Remove fried Elephant Ears with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. While warm, sprinkle generously with the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  • Serve warm and enjoy your crispy, sweet Elephant Ears!

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Rolling Pin
  • Frying pan or deep fryer
  • Slotted Spoon
  • Paper Towels
  • Small Bowl

Notes

  • Store Elephant Ears in an airtight container at room temperature up to 2 days or freeze for longer storage.
  • Adjust dough water or flour to achieve the right consistency if dough is sticky or dry.
  • Sprinkle cinnamon sugar while Elephant Ears are still warm for better adhesion.
