Ingredients

  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 Tbsp warm honey
  • 1 lb bread Challah, Brioche, or Texas Toast, about 8-10 slices, preferably 3/4-inch thick
  • 3 Tbsp unsalted butter for sautéing

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine 6 large eggs, 2 large egg yolks, 1 cup whole milk, 1/4 tsp salt, 2 tsp vanilla extract, 1 tsp ground cinnamon, and 1 Tbsp warm honey. Whisk together until smooth and well combined.
  • Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon unsalted butter. Allow butter to melt and coat the pan.
  • Dip bread slices into the custard mixture, coating both sides evenly. Let excess drip off before placing in skillet.
  • Cook soaked bread slices in the skillet for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through. Repeat with remaining slices, adding more butter as needed.
  • Transfer cooked French toast to serving plates. Drizzle with maple syrup, sprinkle with powdered sugar, or top with fresh fruit as desired. Enjoy!

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk
  • Skillet or griddle
  • Spatula
  • Serving plates

Notes

  • Prepare the custard mixture up to 24 hours in advance and refrigerate for convenience.
  • Use stale bread for extra fluffy toast that absorbs custard well without getting soggy.
  • Reheat leftover French toast in a toaster or skillet to maintain crispness.
