Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 8 oz sharp cheddar cheese slices
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
  • optional herbs or spices (such as dried rosemary or thyme)

Instructions

DIY Cheese Crackers in Steps

  • Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures your cheese crackers will bake evenly and achieve that desired crispness.
  • Take the sharp cheddar cheese slices and place them on a cutting board. Using a kitchen knife or pizza cutter, carefully cut each slice into squares or your preferred cracker shape. Aim for uniform sizes to ensure even baking.
  • Line your baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the cut cheese squares on the parchment, leaving enough space between each piece to allow for expansion during baking.
  • Sprinkle the garlic salt evenly over the cheese squares. If you’re feeling adventurous, add any additional herbs or spices at this stage for extra flavor.
  • Pop the baking sheet into the preheated oven and bake for about 15-20 minutes. Keep a close eye on them as they bake; you want them to become golden and crispy, not burnt.
  • Once they’re done baking, remove the cheese crackers from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes. They will continue to harden as they cool. Finally, transfer them to a serving bowl or store them in an airtight container.

Equipment

  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment Paper
  • Oven
  • Kitchen knife or pizza cutter

Notes

  • Store crackers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week to maintain freshness.
  • Freeze crackers for longer storage, separating layers with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  • Re-crisp stored crackers in the oven for a few minutes if they lose their crunch.
