Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or canola oil
  • 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
  • a few dashes salt
  • 1/4 cup butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon or more if desired
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon half & half

Instructions

Pop the Kernels

  • Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable or canola oil in a large heavy-bottomed pot over medium-high heat. Add 3-4 popcorn kernels and cover with the lid.
  • Once these test kernels pop, remove them and add the remaining 1/2 cup popcorn kernels in an even layer. Cover, and shake the pot gently every 20 seconds to prevent burning and promote even popping.
  • When popping slows to 2-3 seconds between pops, remove from heat.

Prepare the Cinnamon Sugar Mixture

  • Melt 1/4 cup butter in a small saucepan or microwave-safe bowl.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/2 cup powdered sugar, and a few dashes of salt.
  • Stir in 1 tablespoon of half & half to the melted butter to create a smooth, creamy coating.

Combine Popcorn and Toppings

  • Transfer the freshly popped popcorn to a large mixing bowl.
  • Pour the melted butter and half & half mixture over the popcorn, tossing gently to coat each kernel evenly.
  • Immediately sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over the popcorn, tossing again to distribute the sweet spice throughout.

Serve and Enjoy

  • Once evenly coated, spread the popcorn onto a baking sheet or large tray to cool slightly and allow the coating to set.
  • Serve warm or at room temperature.

Equipment

  • Large heavy-bottomed pot with lid
  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Measuring Spoons and Cups
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Small saucepan or microwave-safe bowl

Notes

  • For extra crunch, toss popcorn with a tablespoon of cornstarch before adding the butter mixture.
  • Adjust cinnamon quantity to taste for a milder or stronger spice kick.
  • Store popcorn in an airtight container at room temperature and consume within 2-3 days to maintain crispness.
