Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder for that rich chocolate flavor
  • 2 oz melted chocolate optional, for an extra decadent touch
  • 8 oz cream cheese or vegan cream cheese at room temperature
  • 1/4 cup butter or vegan butter at room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar or erythritol for keto, sweetens the frosting
  • 1 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract enhances the overall flavor
  • 2-4 tbsp milk of choice adjust for desired consistency

Instructions

  • Start by gathering all your ingredients. Make sure your cream cheese and butter are at room temperature to ensure a smooth and creamy frosting.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and butter. Using an electric mixer, beat them together on medium speed until the mixture is smooth and creamy, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Gradually sift in the cocoa powder, and if you’re using it, add the melted chocolate. Mix on low speed until everything is combined.
  • Add the powdered sugar or erythritol to the bowl. Start on low speed to prevent a sugar cloud, then gradually increase to medium. Beat until the sugar is fully incorporated and the mixture is smooth.
  • Pour in the vanilla extract and start with 2 tablespoons of milk. Mix until combined, adding more milk a tablespoon at a time until you reach your desired consistency.
  • Give your frosting a taste! Adjust sweetness if needed by adding more powdered sugar or erythritol, and adjust the consistency by adding more milk if it’s too thick.
  • Once your Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting is ready, use it to frost cakes, cupcakes, or even cookies.

  • For a dairy-free version, substitute vegan cream cheese and vegan butter.

  • If frosting is too thin, add more powdered sugar or chill to thicken.
