Ingredients

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter cut into thin, small pats
  • 2 21 oz cans cherry pie filling check for pits

Instructions

Directions: Chocolate Cherry Dump Cake

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures that your cake bakes evenly and comes out perfectly cooked.
  • Grease your 9x13-inch baking dish lightly with non-stick spray or a bit of butter to prevent sticking.
  • Open the cans of cherry pie filling and pour them into the prepared baking dish. Spread it evenly across the bottom. If desired, you can mix in a bit of the chocolate cake mix for added flavor.
  • Sprinkle the entire box of chocolate cake mix evenly over the cherry filling. Make sure to cover the cherries completely for the best results.
  • Take your pats of unsalted butter and distribute them evenly over the top of the cake mix. This will melt during baking and create a rich, buttery crust.
  • Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean.
  • Once baked, remove the dump cake from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. This allows the flavors to meld together beautifully. Serve warm with a scoop of ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream, if desired.
