  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce adds umami depth and richness
  • 1 teaspoon McCormick Grill Mates Montreal Steak Seasoning a perfect spice blend that complements the beef beautifully
  • 1 clove garlic crushed, for aromatic flavor that enhances the meat
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese melts wonderfully and adds a mild, nutty flavor
  • 4 pieces hamburger buns soft yet sturdy enough to hold all the delicious toppings
  • 0.5 cup caramelized onions sweet, tender onions that bring a luxurious texture and taste

Instructions

Caramelized Onion Swiss Burgers Cooking Guide

  • In a large bowl, gently combine the ground beef with Worcestershire sauce, Montreal Steak Seasoning, and crushed garlic. Be careful not to overwork the meat to keep the patties tender. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each into a round patty about ¾-inch thick.
  • Heat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Lightly oil the surface to prevent sticking. If you’re using a grill, make sure the grates are clean and hot for that perfect sear.
  • Place the patties on the hot surface. Cook for about 4 minutes on one side without moving them to develop a crust. Flip carefully and cook for another 3 minutes.
  • When the patties are almost done, place a slice of Swiss cheese on each one and cover the grill or pan briefly to allow the cheese to melt. Once the cheese is melted, top each patty with about 2 tablespoons of caramelized onions.
  • While the cheese melts, slice and lightly toast your hamburger buns on the grill or in a toaster to add a slight crunch and warmth.
  • Place each patty on the bottom half of a bun, then add any additional toppings you love, followed by the top bun. Serve immediately while warm.

Equipment

  • Grill or stovetop skillet
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Spatula or burger press
  • Sharp Knife
  • Plate lined with paper towels

Notes

  • Don’t press down on the patties while cooking to keep them juicy.
  • Let burgers rest for a few minutes after cooking to redistribute juices.
  • Use a thermometer to check for doneness; 160°F is safe for ground beef.
  • Prepare caramelized onions ahead and store in the fridge for convenience.
  • Customize toppings with bacon, lettuce, or tomato for extra flavor.
