Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground turkey lean
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon onion powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 1 avocado sliced
  • 4 whole wheat burger buns
  • 1 cup lettuce leaves romaine or iceberg
  • 1 medium sweet potato peeled and cut into fries
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon paprika for fries
  • a pinch salt for fries

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Wash and peel the sweet potato, then cut it into evenly sized fries.
  • Toss the fries in 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 1 teaspoon of paprika, and a pinch of salt. Spread them out in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Place the baking sheet in the oven and roast for about 25-30 minutes, turning halfway through to ensure even crisping.
  • While the fries are roasting, combine 1 pound of ground turkey with 1 tablespoon of Cajun seasoning, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon onion powder, 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, and 1/4 teaspoon salt in a large bowl. Mix gently until spices are evenly incorporated.
  • Divide the turkey mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a patty about 3/4 inch thick.
  • Heat a non-stick skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat and cook patties for 5-6 minutes per side, or until internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). Avoid pressing on patties.
  • While patties cook, slice avocado and wash lettuce leaves. Toast whole wheat buns if desired.
  • Assemble burgers by placing lettuce on bottom bun, then turkey patty, sliced avocado, and top bun. Serve immediately with sweet potato fries.

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Baking Sheet
  • Non-stick skillet or grill pan
  • Sharp Knife
  • Spatula
  • Meat Thermometer (optional)

Notes

  • Do not overmix the turkey to keep burgers tender and juicy.
  • Pressing the patties while cooking squeezes out juices, so avoid it.
  • Cut sweet potato fries evenly for uniform cooking.
  • Soaking fries in cold water before cooking can help crispiness.
  • Store leftovers in airtight containers and reheat properly to maintain texture.
