  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • Cream the softened butter and sugar together in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy using an electric mixer or sturdy spoon.
  • Gradually add the all-purpose flour and almond extract (if using) to the creamed mixture. Mix just until combined. If dough is sticky, add up to 1/4 cup more flour.
  • Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll into balls. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet about 2 inches apart. Press sprinkles on top if desired.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10-12 minutes until edges are just golden and centers remain soft. Avoid overbaking.
